Which one should you choose?
Choose Aurorasters Soft Tri-Fold Tacoma 5 ft if
- You own a 2016-2026 Toyota Tacoma with a 5 ft bed and factory deck rails.
- You prefer an internal locking mechanism that secures with the tailgate.
- You want a cover that folds into three sections for a low-profile look.
Choose Aurorasters 5.7 ft Soft Quad-Fold Ram 1500 Cover if
- You drive a 2019-2026 Ram 1500 New Body with a 5.7 ft bed.
- You need extra support from four horizontal crossbars when the cover is open.
- You want more adjustable opening sizes and additional firm clamps for stability.
Verdict: Choose the tri-fold if you have a Tacoma, as it is custom-molded for that specific deck rail system. Select the quad-fold if you have a Ram 1500, since it fits the 5.7 ft bed and offers more crossbar support. Both models provide durable, weather-resistant protection without requiring drilling.
Tri-Fold vs Quad-Fold Comparison
Cover Style
The Aurorasters Soft Tri-Fold Tacoma 5 ft uses a three-panel folding design. This style folds the cover into three sections when you need full bed access. The Aurorasters 5.7 ft Soft Quad-Fold Ram 1500 Cover employs a four-panel mechanism. This quad-fold design creates four distinct sections. The extra panel allows for more granular adjustment of the opening size. You can leave more of the bed exposed with less bulk at the cab. This offers slightly more flexibility for hauling items of varying lengths compared to the tri-fold.
Compatible Truck
Vehicle compatibility is the primary differentiator between these two models. The Soft Tri-Fold Tacoma 5 ft is custom-molded specifically for the 2016-2026 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab with a 5 ft bed. It requires the factory Deck Rail system. The Soft Quad-Fold Ram 1500 Cover is designed exclusively for the 2019-2026 Ram 1500 New Body with a 5.7 ft bed. It is not compatible with the Ram 1500 Classic. You must select the model that matches your specific truck make and model year to ensure proper fitment.
Structure
Both covers utilize a soft structure with aviation aluminum internal support. However, the quad-fold model includes four built-in horizontal crossbars. These bars provide additional support when the cover is fully unfolded. The tri-fold model relies on its three-panel frame. The quad-fold design includes one more crossbar than the tri-fold version. This extra structural element contributes to a sturdier feel when the cover is open. It also helps maintain the shape of the cover during use.
Bed Size
The bed sizes differ slightly between the two options. The Tacoma model fits a 5 ft bed, which measures 60 inches inside length. The Ram model fits a 5.7 ft bed, which measures 67.4 inches. This difference in length is significant for your cargo space. You cannot swap these covers between trucks with different bed dimensions. The 5.7 ft bed offers slightly more length for hauling longer items than the 5 ft bed.
Lock Type
Security features vary between the two models. The Soft Tri-Fold Tacoma 5 ft includes an internal locking mechanism. This system locks under the cover. When your tailgate is closed and locked, the bed becomes a secure trunk. The data for the Soft Quad-Fold Ram 1500 Cover does not specify a particular lock type. It mentions mounting hardware and clamps but does not detail an integrated locking system. If integrated locking is a priority, the tri-fold model provides this feature explicitly.
Which Aurorasters Cover Fits Your Truck
Tacoma owner with 5ft deck rail bed
This soft tri-fold cover is custom-molded for your 2016-2026 Toyota Tacoma with a 5ft short bed. It requires the factory Deck Rail system for mounting. The internal locking mechanism secures cargo when the tailgate is closed. You get a no-drill drop-in setup that fits the specific 60-inch inside length of your truck bed.
Ram 1500 owner needing extra folded space
Designed for 2019-2026 Ram 1500 New Body models with a 5.7ft bed, this quad-fold cover uses four crossbars for support. The four-panel design saves more space when folded up compared to tri-fold options. It includes upgraded clamps for easy installation without drilling. The sturdy structure offers additional firm clamps for stability.
Driver wanting improved fuel efficiency
Both covers reduce wind drag to help save gas, but this quad-fold model is engineered for aerodynamic efficiency on Ram trucks. The smooth, low-profile design minimizes resistance while driving. You benefit from the heavy-duty double-layer PVC and aviation aluminum construction that maintains its shape to optimize airflow over the bed.
