How to choose the right Bestop tonneau cover
-
Match your bed length
Your GMC Sierra bed length dictates which cover fits. The Bestop Supertop 6.5 ft Black Diamond is designed strictly for 6.5 ft beds. If you have a newer Sierra with a 5.8 ft bed, you need the Supertop Truck 2 5.8 ft. Using a cover with the wrong length causes fitment issues. Check your truck’s specifications before ordering. Do not assume all Sierra beds are the same size. Precision matters for security and weather protection. Select the option that matches your exact bed measurement to ensure proper installation and function.
-
Check model year compatibility
Bestop covers are not universal across all Sierra years. The top pick fits 1999-2017 models. The second option is for 2019-2020 Silverado and Sierra 1500 trucks. Some HD models have specific requirements. You must verify your truck’s model year against the product specs. A mismatch can prevent installation or damage the cover. Review the size section of each listing carefully. Ensure the year range includes your vehicle. This step prevents returns and ensures the cover sits correctly on your truck bed rails.
-
Consider cover weight
Weight affects how easy the cover is to operate. The Bestop Supertop 6.5 ft Black Diamond weighs 25 pounds. This lightweight design allows for easy folding and removal. Heavier covers may require more effort to manage. If you frequently open and close the cover, lighter is better. The 25-pound weight offers a balance of durability and convenience. Check the weight spec if you plan to remove the top often. A manageable weight ensures you can handle the cover alone without strain.
-
Review physical dimensions
Width, height, and length specs define the cover profile. The Supertop Truck 2 5.8 ft measures 27.5 inches wide and 5.5 inches high. The HD version is 28 inches wide and 6 inches high. These dimensions affect aerodynamics and cargo clearance. A lower profile may reduce wind noise. A wider base might interfere with bed rails. Compare these numbers to your truck’s bed opening. Ensure the cover fits within your bed’s boundaries. Accurate dimensions help you visualize how the cover sits on your Sierra.
-
Verify HD truck needs
Heavy-duty trucks often require specific cover designs. The Bestop Supertop 2 HD Black is built for HD models. It offers secure, no-drill installation for heavier vehicles. If you own a GMC Sierra HD, standard covers may not fit. Check if the product is labeled for HD use. The HD version has different dimensions to accommodate larger beds. Ensure your truck type matches the cover’s intended application. Using the wrong cover on an HD truck can lead to poor fitment. Select the HD-specific option for proper coverage and security.
