Choosing the Right Flowkottu Cover
Compatible Truck
The primary difference lies in vehicle compatibility. The Flowkottu 6 ft Retractable Aluminum Tacoma Cover is engineered specifically for the Toyota Tacoma, covering model years 2016 through 2026. This ensures a precise fit for that specific midsize platform. In contrast, the Flowkottu Retractable Aluminum F-150 5.5 ft is designed exclusively for the Ford F-150, supporting years 2015 to 2026. You must select the model that matches your truck manufacturer. Neither cover is cross-compatible. Choosing the wrong one will result in installation failure due to differing bed rails and dimensions.
Bed Size
Bed length is the second critical factor. The Tacoma model accommodates a 6 ft bed. This provides a longer cargo area for hauling larger items. The F-150 model is sized for a 5.5 ft bed. This shorter length is standard for many F-150 configurations. Both covers utilize the same retractable mechanism, but the physical dimensions of the aluminum slats and the canister size are tailored to these specific lengths. You cannot install the 6 ft cover on a 5.5 ft bed, nor vice versa. The fit depends entirely on this measurement.
Cover Style
Both products share an identical retractable cover style. This design allows the cover to roll up into an aluminum canister at the front of the bed. This mechanism leaves the entire rear of the truck bed open and accessible when you need to carry tall or long cargo. Unlike tri-fold covers, this style does not obstruct your rear windshield view when fully retracted. The operation is smooth, sliding along the side rails. You get the same security and convenience regardless of which truck you own.
Material Build
The construction materials are identical for both models. Each cover features a body made of aluminum (AL) slats. These slats form a standing seam system that resists knives and rain. The side rails and the storage canister are also constructed from aluminum. This material choice offers high durability and resistance to corrosion. The surface is finished with a dark matte powder coat to protect against scratches and UV damage. You receive the same robust build quality and weight capacity of 600 lbs of evenly distributed load on either model.
Lock Type
Security features are consistent across both covers. Each unit includes a built-in cover lock. This mechanism makes it difficult to open the cover without permission, enhancing cargo security. Additionally, the bed covers and tailgate automatically lock when the cover is fully closed. If the cover is only partially open, the system remains unlocked until you manually move the pull strap. This integrated locking system provides peace of mind for both Tacoma and F-150 owners alike.
Installation Method
Installation is straightforward for both products. They utilize a clamp-on system that requires no drilling into the truck bed rails. This makes the process reversible and non-invasive. You can install the cover using basic tools. Note that on certain truck models, you may need to drill holes for the drainage tubes. Both covers feature an integrated sealing and drainage system to keep cargo dry. The installation experience is identical, allowing you to set up either cover quickly without professional help.
