The SYNTHACY vs aurorasters tonneau cover comparison helps you choose the right fit for your Dodge Ram 1500. Both covers protect your bed with soft, foldable designs and require no drilling for installation. They share a 5.7 ft bed size and black color options. The main difference lies in their folding mechanism. SYNTHACY uses a tri-fold style, while Aurorasters offers a quad-fold design. SYNTHACY vs Aurorasters Cover Specs
Cover style
The SYNTHACY cover uses a tri-fold design, which folds into three sections. This style is common for soft covers and offers a balance between coverage and bed access. The Aurorasters cover features a quad-fold design, folding into four sections. This extra fold allows the cover to stack more compactly at the front of the bed. A quad-fold often leaves more open space near the tailgate when fully opened. Both styles are soft and foldable, but the quad-fold provides a different access profile. You should choose based on how much bed space you need when the cover is open.
Material build
Both covers use double-layer PVC as their primary material. This material provides a smooth surface and basic weather resistance. The SYNTHACY cover relies on this PVC layer along with aluminum clamps and powder-coated rails for its structure. The Aurorasters cover adds EDPM rubber and aviation aluminum to its material list. EDPM is a type of rubber often used for seals and durability against temperature changes. Aviation aluminum suggests lighter yet strong internal supports. The inclusion of these extra materials in the Aurorasters build may offer enhanced durability or sealing compared to the standard PVC and aluminum setup of the SYNTHACY.
Compatibility
Compatibility is a critical factor for both covers. The SYNTHACY cover fits the 5.7 ft bed for Dodge Ram 1500 models from 2009 to 2026. It explicitly excludes beds with Rambox, split tailgates, or Bed Track Systems. This wide year range includes both older and newer body styles. The Aurorasters cover is limited to the 2019-2026 New Body Ram 1500 models. It also excludes the Classic models and those with Rambox or split tailgates. If you own a Ram 1500 Classic or an older model before 2019, the Aurorasters will not fit. The SYNTHACY offers broader compatibility across different model years.
Profile height
The profile height affects how low the cover sits on the truck bed. The SYNTHACY cover has a listed height of 4.33 inches. This is a relatively low profile, which can help maintain the truck's aerodynamic shape. The Aurorasters cover does not list a specific height in its key specifications or detailed specs. However, quad-fold covers often have slightly different stacking heights due to their four-section design. Without a specific measurement, you cannot directly compare the visual profile. A lower profile generally reduces wind drag more effectively. You may need to check the Aurorasters dimensions elsewhere if profile height is a priority for your truck's look.
Installation
Both covers emphasize an easy, tool-free installation process. The SYNTHACY cover requires no drilling and uses pre-assembled rails and aluminum clamps. You can install it in minutes using the provided guide. The Aurorasters cover also requires no drilling or tools. It features upgraded clamps with adjustable holes, which may simplify fitting on different truck rails. The Aurorasters claims an installation time of under 20 minutes. Both designs allow for quick assembly and disassembly. The adjustable clamps on the Aurorasters might offer a slight advantage in fitting precision, but both are designed for straightforward, non-invasive setup.
Locking mechanism
Security is provided through the locking mechanism on each cover. The SYNTHACY cover uses a tailgate lock. This means the cover locks directly into the tailgate, securing the rear end of the bed. This is a standard and effective method for soft covers. The Aurorasters cover does not specify a unique locking type in its key specs or features. It mentions a mounting kit and hardware, but the specific lock type is not detailed. A tailgate lock is a clear, defined security feature. Without knowing the Aurorasters lock type, the SYNTHACY provides a more transparent security specification for your cargo protection.
Which tonneau cover fits your Ram best
You want maximum folded bed space
The Aurorasters quad-fold design includes four horizontal crossbars. This extra bar allows the cover to fold into more sections. You gain more access room when the cover is stacked at the cab. The additional structural support also helps keep the cover sturdy when fully unfolded. This design choice directly improves your ability to load tall items.
You need a precise fit for older Rams
The SYNTHACY cover is engineered for Dodge Ram 1500 models from 2009 through 2026. It explicitly supports the 2019-2024 Ram 1500 Classic and the New Body styles. If you drive an older model or a Classic variant, this cover ensures a tailored fit. The Aurorasters product excludes the Classic models, making this the only viable option for those trucks.
You prioritize aerodynamic fuel efficiency
The Aurorasters cover highlights its ability to reduce wind drag. By improving aerodynamics, it aims to help you save on gas mileage. The quad-fold structure contributes to this airflow management. While both covers shield your cargo, this specific feature focuses on driving efficiency. You get this benefit alongside the standard protection against rain and snow.
